DECA competitions fall into one of four clusters: marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Within those clusters there are more specific events that deal with a more specific career field in that cluster. For example, if you were to choose accounting as your event, that would fall under the finance cluster. Competitors studied throughout the month of December to get the highest score they could, which consists of the economics test and two other aspects: a career cluster test, and a role play.
The economics test included a variety of 100 questions. Students have the opportunity to medal in the Economics test, in addition to their event. Students also took a career cluster test that related to the general event they were competing in (marketing, finance, hospitality, or management). Students were then given a real-life situation/role play which they had to record themselves working out the scenario which was then sent to be judged.
Of the 13 students who competed at districts, five individuals and two teams of two were awarded with a medal or plaque. One team took second place in their event: Abbey Henrichs and Gwyneth Lowry (Buying & Merchandising Team Decision Making). Henrichs and Lowry each took home two medals and a plaque. Along with earning two medals, Abbey Henrichs and Gwyneth Lowry also received a medal for the Economic test, which was an event that 250 competitors had to take online.
The following team earned fourth place in their event: Kaylee Brown and Ashleigh Hull (Hospitality and Tourism Team Decision Making). Brown and Hull each took home one medal. One individual earned second in an event: Makenzie Denny (Quick Service Restaurant) not only finished with second, but also earned one medal and a plaque while doing so.
Another individual earned a third-place spot: Brynlei Kuhn (Accounting) earned a medal and a plaque for her hard work. Finally, Rhinelander had one more fourth-place placing: Lilli Bishop (Retail Marketing) earned two medals. Rhinelander also had students receive individual medals: Diego Duarte (Apparel & Accessories Marketing) and Julia Burke (Quick Serve Restaurant) each received a medal for being overall series finalist.
