James was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 5, 1934 to Henry and Carletta Preisler. The family moved to Phelps when Jim's father became a caretaker for a prominent family in the Phelps area. Jim graduated from Phelps High School in 1952. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Austria and Germany.
After his dad passed away, Jim and his mom moved to Rhinelander. He was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Mill for 38 years, retiring at the age of 62. During this time Jim was married and raised a family of three children.
After retirement Jim began to live out his dream of spending winters in Perdido Key, Florida. While living in Florida he developed many close friendships. He loved golfing and played a round every second he could.
In his younger years Jim enjoyed deer hunting, boating, snowmobiling and fishing.
He will be dearly missed by his sister Pat Federly of Rhinelander, brother Bill (Janice) Preisler of Villa Hills, Ky.; three children: Debbie (Julius) Daniels, Jeff (Yongmi) Preisler and Gary Preisler; five grandchildren: Jamie Preisler, Adam Preisler, Lexi Keso, Benjamin (Michelle) Preisler, James West and Kim (Brandon) West Hanson, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Carletta Preisler.
The visitation for James will take place on Tuesday, Jan/ 4, 2022 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate. Immediately following the mass there will be a procession to the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw for the Committal Service and military honors. Military Honors will be conducted by Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143, Rhinelander and by two representatives from the United States Army.
