Sharon was born in Hustisford on Dec. 6, 1948 to Jacob and Evelyn (Hayes) Sterman and was raised on the family's dairy farm in rural Hartford. While living on the farm, Sharon helped milk 150 head of Holstein cows. She was a 1967 graduate of Hartford Union High School. She then attended UW Oshkosh, Mayville-Dodge County Teacher's College for two years, and finally graduated at the age of 30 with first honors from UW Whitewater in December of 1978, earning a Bachelor in Elementary Education for Nursery - Third. Two months after graduating, Sharon met William J. Weyker and six months later they were married on Aug. 18, 1979. The couple owned/managed two True Value Hardware Stores, one in Waubeka, Wis. and the other in Naples, Texas. A son, Eugene, was born in Wisconsin and a daughter, Evelyn, was born in Texas. The family lived in Texas for more than 30 years. During this time Sharon was an elementary teacher. She had a lifetime teaching license in the state of Texas. She taught at St. Stanislaus School in Milwaukee for 6 months, Milford ISD for one year, Wilmer Hutchins ISD for eight years, Dallas ISD for 10 years, and at DeSoto Private School for one year. She also did online tutoring for seven years with Educate Online.
In 2013, they moved to Rhinelander to be with their children and enjoy their retirement.
Sharon was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Eagle River, a member of the Rhinelander First United Methodist Church, a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Rhinelander, a member of the United Methodist Women's group, a member of the Newcomer's group in Rhinelander, and sang in the church choir at the Rhinelander First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed and loved horses, playing with her dog Twilight, singing, playing the piano, snowmobiling, and watching religious programs, as her religion was very important to her. She also led and participated in Job Seekers Ministry/Between Jobs Ministry, which she began in DeSoto, Texas and later in Rhinelander. As a devoted teacher, Sharon loved teaching children how to read. Most of all, Sharon loved her family and took great pride in her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 42 years, William; children, Eugene (Lauren Crow) Weyker of Gleason, and Evelyn (Ryan Miller) Weyker of Rhinelander; three grandchildren: Harley Weyker, Declan Miller, & Eugene Miller; siblings, Keith Sterman (special friend, Debi Hanson) of Mayville, and Wendy (Jim) Peters of West Bend. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The visitation for Sharon will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at the Rhinelander United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. memorial service with Rev. Mark Klaisner officiating. A meal will be served immediately following the service at the church.
