A 26-year-old Hazelhurst man charged with attempted sexual assault of a child under 16 and and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime is being held in the Oneida County jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

Joshua Michael Krause made his initial appearance on the charges Monday afternoon before Oneida County circuit judge Mike Bloom.

According to online court records, Bloom continued the $10,000 cash bond set over the weekend and scheduled an adjourned initial appearance for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 27.

If he were to make bond, Krause may not use or possess any electronic device that can access the internet.

According to the criminal complaint, Krause was arrested last Friday morning in Minocqua at a location where he was expecting to meet a 15-year-old female for a sexual encounter.

The complaint states the investigation began after Krause began an online chat with a social media account operated by an undercover detective who was posing as a 15-year-old girl.

According to the partial transcript of the conversations included in the complaint, Krause asked "the girl" to send him a topless photo of herself and engaged in sexually explicit conversation before arranging the meeting in Minocqua.

If convicted, Krause faces a maximum of 60 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of five years on the using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime charge.
