The Oneida County Sheriff's Department and Monico Fire and First Responders had a few nervous minutes at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021 when they were sent to the scene of a crash on Highway 45 at Kurtz Road. An Amerigas propane tanker slid off of the highway, coming to rest on its side. The driver was uninjured, and managed to get out of the truck by kicking out the windshield. According to Jake Simkins, captain of emergency services with the sheriff's department, despite initial reports the propane tank was leaking, the hazardous material team determined that not to be the case. The truck was righted and towed from the scene. Weather and road conditions were cited as the cause of the accident, which left Highway 45 down to one lane of travel for about three hours.
