Christina "Tina" Taege Werres, age 73, of Rhinelander, died on Nov. 27, 2021 at the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. She was born on Sept. 27, 1948, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Weldon "Bud" and Dorothy (Whiting) Taege. She moved to Rhinelander as a young child when her parents opened Taege's Pharmacy in downtown Rhinelander.

Tina graduated from the Rhinelander High School in 1966 and then attended UWSP and Nicolet College. She had multiple jobs in retail, real estate, building management, trucking, as well as many other ventures.

Tina gave of herself wholeheartedly to the Rhinelander community. She was co-founder of the SOS, a support group for survivors of suicide victims. She was instrumental in the revitalization of the Oneida County Fair and its move to its present location at Pioneer Park. She was active in the Downtown Rhinelander Inc, the Duck Chase, Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce, the Red Cross and many others.

If you asked Tina, she was most proud of her leadership in the formation of the Shepard Dog Park where she turned a longtime hope and vision into a park that is used by many. Thankfully she was able to spend many hours with her dog Zelda, her friends and their dogs, at the dog park.

Tina was a "take the bull by the horns" type of person who had a hard time saying no to those who asked her to volunteer. Because of that, many in our community have Tina to thank for a lot of activities and programs that they and their family enjoy each and every day.

Tina is survived by her daughter Lori (Jim) Werres Sticka, her grandson Max Werres, her sister Judy (Rich) Taege Boersma, her brother Bing (Ellie) Taege, her nieces Amy (JD) Harbor, Robbyn (Tom) Michaels and Becky (Jason) Childs, her nephews Jeffrey (Jen) Taege, Jason (Alexia) Taege, Joshua (Amber) Boersma, numerous great nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Paul.

Memorial services for Tina will be held next summer at the Shepard Dog Park in Rhinelander. The date and time of services will be published in the River News and at www.carlsonfh.com. You may leave your private condolences for Tina's family at www.carlsonfh.com. A memorial is being established in Tina's name for the dog park and any gifts may be sent to her family.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving Tina's family.
