Just over a year after Ripco Credit Union broke ground on a planned expansion of its headquarters on Sutliff Avenue in Rhinelander, credit union officials and others gathered Thursday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony signifying the completion of the project.

The expansion was first announced in May 2020 and the ground-breaking took place on June 29, 2020.

In announcing the project, Ripco officials said the expansion had been in the works for some time and was necessary to meet the needs of credit union members going forward.

"When it (the expansion) is all done, it will be 20,000 square feet of new and remodeled (area)," Ripco President/CEO Liza Edinger said last year.

"We've run out of room, we really have," she added. "We've completely run out of office space for employees. It will enable everyone to have the space they need plus we have planned ahead for future growth."

"This should carry us to our 100th anniversary, 12 years, that's our goal, and beyond," she said in 2020.

Ripco Credit Union was established in 1932, and membership was originally limited to employees of the Rhinelander Industrial Paper Company and their families.

Membership is now open to anyone who lives or owns real estate in Oneida, Vilas, Forest, Florence, Lincoln, Langlade or Price counties.
