An 18-year-old Antigo man has been charged with three counts of felony burglary and two counts of felony theft in connection with a string of burglaries in the Rhinelander area back in June and the recent theft of firearms from parked vehicles.

The defendant, Dorrian A. Derks-Williams, is also facing several misdemeanor counts including misdmeanor theft, negligent handling of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting an officer.

According to the criminal complaint outlining the burglary charges, an individual contacted the Rhinelander Police Department on June 24 to report their home was in disarray and jewelry, medications, a video game console and household items were missing.

While officers were investigating that report, another individual reported that items that did not belong to them had been strewn in their yard. The items included a glass jar with coins, a paper bag, binoculars, a rifle scope, a pellet gun and a guitar, according to the complaint.

A third person then called police to report a guitar and a can of coins had been removed from their residence.

The police report indicates the three burglaries occurred on the same street.

According to the report, two witnesses told police that two individuals - Derks-Williams and a juvenile - had been with them at their location earlier and one had left his cellphone there to charge. The individual retrieved the phone and turned it over to police.

Officers later located the juvenile suspect and he reported that he had accompanied Derks-Williams into the houses thinking Derks-Williams knew the people who lived there. The juvenile admitted taking a can of coins and seeing Derks-Williams leave a house with a guitar and firearm, the complaint states.

When officers later tried to locate Derks-Williams in Antigo, they were told by a relative he had been kicked out of the residence a day earlier.

An arrest warrant for Derks-Williams was authorized in July but he was not arrested until Aug. 20 when police responded to a report of three vehicle break-ins.

The owners of the vehicles reported that firearms had been stolen from their vehicles, all of which were parked in the same lot.

According to the complaint in that case, a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun, two boxes of 9mm ammo and $600 in cash was taken from the first vehicle, while a 9mm Makarov handgun and a 30rd Magpul magazine that was loaded with .223 rounds was taken from the second vehicle.

Missing from the third vehicle was a Mossberg 17HMR rifle and a pair of Oakley sunglasses valued at $200.

Police later located Derks-Williams and a juvenile suspect, one was on foot and the other was hiding behind a tree, according to the complaint.

The juvenile was apprehended following a foot pursuit, after an officer advised he would be Tased if he did not comply with orders to stop. Unmarked police units later located Derk-Williams walking along a city street.

The juvenile suspect later told authorities that he and Derks-Williams each had a handgun on them when they broke into the vehicles. He also stated that four females were with them when they approached the vehicles.

Derks-Williams made court appearances on the two cases on Aug. 23 and 24. A $5,000 cash bond was set in each case and a joint adjourned initial appearance was scheduled for Sept. 13.

If convicted of all charges, Derks-Williams faces more than 50 years in prison.
