Ellen attended schools in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1976. Following high school, Ellen was married in June of 1976 to her soulmate Gary LaLande in Sturgeon Bay where they lived for 10 more years before moving to Rhinelander in 1987 with their three children. Upon moving to Rhinelander Ellen worked in various roles to support her family, then finished out her career as a manufacturing supervisor. Gary and Ellen moved out to Pelican Lake where they eventually retired at their country home.
Ellen's passion for gardening was infectious in that she shared her plants with those she loved, there are very few of her friends and family that do not have clippings of her flowers. She enjoyed sitting around a firepit with family and friends enjoying the country life. Ellen had an unconditional love for all and that was especially true for her family and friends. She was happiest when others were happy. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to travel every chance that she had and it usually involved a blues concert or festival.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 45 years Gary LaLande; daughters Melissa LaLande, Amy (Jade) Hernandez, Renee (Joseph) Berg; grandchildren Michaela Hansen, Sianna Simon, Jordyn Simon, Aiyanna Hernandez, Delphina Hernandez; sister Cheryl (Clancy) Hull; brothers Jim (Tracy) Stephany, Dave (Cory) Stephany, Terry (Cindy) Stephany, Jay (Sally) Stephany; brother-in-law Lonny LaLande and sister-in-law Linda Sheltrown, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
