Cousins Subs and its Make It Better Foundation selected Quinn Lamers of Rhinelander High School as a second-place prize winner of a $2,500 Wisconsin Sports Awards Scholarship, the restaurant chain announced in a press release last Wednesday.

Lamers was one out of four Wisconsin high school senior finalists who took home scholarships as part of the company's ninth annual Wisconsin Sports Award Scholarship Contest.

"He was selected as a finalist due to his ability to excel academically while being a four-sport athlete and dedicated community volunteer," the press release stated.

In high school, Lamers served as team captain for nearly every sport he participated in and received numerous athletic recognitions, including Football All-State academic team in 2020. He earned all-Great Northern Conference honors in football, basketball and baseball during his senior season, and was selected to take part in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association's All-Star Game.

Through his hard work, Lamers obtained a 4.60 GPA and will attend the University of Montana where he will play football and double major in finance and management information system.

"The driving factor in my achievements has always been striving to be the best possible version of myself," he said. "By becoming the best version of myself, I can do the most for others around me and live to my fullest potential."

Joining Lamers is Makenna Guden of Edgar who also received a $2,500 scholarship. First-place prize winners were Jonah Jurss of Sheboygan and Madison Russell of Shullsburg, who are recipients of a $7,500 scholarship.

The four scholarships are funded by the Make It Better Foundation - Cousins Subs' nonprofit organization that addresses the vital community needs of health and wellness, hunger and youth education.

To date, the organization has awarded more than $162,000 in scholarships to 21 high school students, including this year's recipients.
