Roland met his future wife, Mary Torkelson, while they were both working at Harnischfeger Corp. in West Milwaukee. The two were married on Sept. 3, 1955 at Nain Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

He was very family oriented and his children meant a lot to him. He loved his hunting dogs, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time in the outdoors; especially the lakes, farms, fields, the streams, and all wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Henkel of Harshaw, his daughters, Kim E. (James) Fischer of Menomonee Falls, and Karen J. Henkel of Marshfield, his son, Roland J. (Brenda) Henkel, Jr. of Berlin, Wis.; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Derek) Henkel, Jhon Krebs, Elisabeth (Zak) Nall, Luke (Payton) Fischer, and Ben (Madalaine) Radzinski; and his great-grandchildren, Makenda Kreps and Tatum Fischer.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Regina Henkel of Milwaukee, and his brother, Kenneth Henkel of Greenfield.

A Celebration of Life for Roland J. Henkel, Sr. will be held at a later date at Faith Lutheran Church in Harshaw, and will be announced at that time.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that all donations may be made to the Cassian Township Volunteer Fire Department in Roland's name.
