The fifth annual Veterans on Water event was held last weekend on Lake Mohawksin. Veterans and tournament anglers gathered at Sara Park boat landing in Tomahawk to renew old friendships and start new ones. Each veteran was paired with a bass tournament angler and would compete as a team for the day.

While all anglers like to be competitive, the day was about more than just that. Tournament organizer Kris Hanes, a disabled veteran himself, brought together veterans from all branches of the service and fellow tournament anglers for a day of fun and camaraderie. When the fishing was over, there was ample opportunity for anglers and veterans to get to know one another over some food and beverages as well as to cheer for the successes of winning teams during the awards ceremony.

Raffles were also held with proceeds going to veteran groups in Wisconsin. Hanes thanked his friends and family for all of their help in putting together a great tournament that all enjoyed, especially his mother, Robin Hanes, who was an integral part of the planning of the event. He said he is already looking forward to the sixth annual Veterans on Water tournament and had already heard from many veterans they would be back next year for more fun.
