Ella Heck reached the podium, placing second in the 50-meter breaststroke, highlighting her three-event program. Vivian Lamers swam in six events at state, earning top-10 finishes in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke.
"I'm so proud of these girls," RHS coach Megan Cihla said. "They truly had the meet of a lifetime. Going into the meet they had some big goals, putting a lot of pressure on themselves. But once at the meet, they danced, laughed, and enjoyed this experience. They had amazing swims, exceeding all goals and expectations.
"These girls had so much fight and determination this weekend. And to do it all with a smile on their faces was incredible to watch. I'm excited to see what the future holds for these two."
Heck clocked in at 38.54 seconds for her runner-up finish in the 50 breaststroke. She added a 16th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:31.84) and was 61st in the 50 freestyle (32.69).
"Ella had the race of her life, finishing second in the 50 breast and 16th in the 100 breast. The smile she had on her face while on the podium was priceless," Cihla said.
Lamers ended up ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:30.39) and 10th in the 50 breaststroke (40.49), highlighting her program. Lamers also placed 18th in the 50 freestyle (30.93), 32nd in the 50 butterfly (34.98), 33rd in the 100 freestyle (1:10.23) and 53rd in the 50 backstroke (38.18).
"Vivian had a tough lineup, competing in six events, but swam amazing in everything," Cihla said. "Vivian was outstanding in everything she swam, finishing ninth and 10th in the 50 and 100 breast, just missing the podium. But she proved she was someone to watch for."
