From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 community members, families and tourists can experience Oktoberfest in all its beer foam and schwein roast glory on Superior Street in downtown Three Lakes, organizers announced in a press release.
"Once again, Three Lakes Oktoberfest will offer a variety of food, entertainment, and vendors," the release states. "Chefs from the Black Forest will be outside roasting a pig, serving pulled pork sandwiches alongside freshly grilled bratwurst, Bavarian pretzels, sauerkraut and - of course - plenty of German beer! A variety of vendors will have baked goods, food, crafted wares, live demonstrations, and more. The addition of games and friendly competitions provides ample reasons to visit the event."
Organizers are looking for more vendors and crafters for the event.
"We're extending our artisan market down the block this year and looking for more vendors!" the releases states. "Interested makers, sellers, nonprofits, and more." For more information, call 715-546-3344 or email [email protected].
The event will also include live music, sponsored by the Three Lakes Nicolet Bank and the Three Lakes Chamber, beginning at 11 a.m. with the Jim Pekol Band performing upbeat polka music themed for the German event. David Dall will perform songs that will engage the youth in singing along and dancing. WXPR will be on-site broadcasting live giving listeners a taste of the amusement and activities attendees are sure to experience.
Back by popular demand the Pommersche Danz Gruppe from Wausau will entertain all ages, performing German folk dances in authentic costumes throughout the day.
The event will also include friendly games and competitions run by various local organizations. The nominal entry fees ranging from $1 to $10 will directly benefit those organizations.
The Oneida County Drug Abuse Resistance Education program will have their D.A.R.E. vehicle on-site and challenge attendees to simulated sobriety drills while educating youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol use and abuse.
Families can also meet a police K-9 and watch a live drug search demo.
Event attendees are encouraged to stop in the downtown's businesses in search of hidden pickles. Complete an entry form, listing the German words on the pickles, for a chance to win a great prize!
Admission to Oktoberfest is free and the fest will be held rain or shine.
