Gabe was raised in Rhinelander and was a 1969 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He retired from the Rhinelander Paper Company.
For many years, Gabe volunteered with the United Way.
He loved the outdoors which included hunting and visiting his favorite watering hole and seeing his friends. But most of all, Gabe loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He has now joined his son; Jim Huempfner, his parents; Dorothy and John, his brother; Gale, brother-in-law; Jake Hoffhein and sister; Susan Worden.
He is survived by his daughter; Tricia (Dave) Petrowski, Rich (Randy) Huempfner, Gabriel Huempfner Jr., daughter-in-law; Ashlee Huempfner, two step-daughters; Michelle and Danielle, four grandchildren; Gini, Rueben, Brett, and Braylee Huempfner and his brothers; Gary (Onie), Guy (Myra) and Greg (Roberta) Huempfner, sister; Dawn Hoffhein and sister-in-law; Roxie Huempfner. Also surviving are other relatives and friends.
At Gabe's request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place.
A small gathering with his family and close friends will be scheduled at a later date.
