Gene attended schools in Three Lakes and then served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam war. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Three Lakes area and went to work in the potato fields in Starks. After doing that for a number of years he began his career as a truck driver which he did for nearly 40 years. He also owned and operated Gene and Dot's Bar for quite a few years.
Gene served as the Town Chairman for the Town of Piehl for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was known as a truly honorable man who would step in and help anyone when he saw a need.
Gene is survived by his wife Carol, his 12 children: Angela, Karen, Mary, David, Gloria, Carol, Janet, Joan, Butch, Diane, Jane and Jeff, many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, his sister Marcia, his brother Walter, his stepbrothers Roger and Frank Jr., niece, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Doraine, his parents and his stepson James.
