Betty Jane Stellick (nee Egvedt) 1933-2021

Betty was born May 9, 1933, in Racine, to Isaac and Loretta Egvedt. She died of a stroke on March 16, 2021 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla.

Betty was raised in Kenosha, and attended Friedens Lutheran Grade School. From there she enrolled at Racine Lutheran High School. Upon completion of her junior year she transferred to Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minn. During her senior year she met Norman Stellick, who would become her future husband.

Betty and Norman graduated from Martin Luther High School in 1951. She and Norman continued their education at Doctor Martin Luther College in New Ulm where they trained to become Christian day school teachers. In the fall of 1953, due to a shortage of Christian day school teachers, Betty accepted a call to teach at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Cudahy. One year later, on Aug. 14, 1954, Betty and Norman were married at Friedens Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Betty continued teaching in Cudahy until December of 1954 when she joined her husband, who in Sept. of 1954, had accepted an emergency teaching call to Zion Lutheran School in Rhinelander.

Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of Zion Ladies Guild and church choir. Betty was a dedicated and faithful mother to her nine children and was later employed by J.C. Penney for many years. She was also an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Ariz. where she and Norman enjoyed many warm winters and friends.

Betty is survived by Norman, her husband of 67 years, and 9 children: Deborah L. (Bill) Treder of Rhinelander, Douglas L. (Karin) Stellick of Holmen, Darla L. (Randy) Weirich of North Aurora, Ill., David L. Stellick of Wausau, Denise L. (Larry) Torgeson of Sun Prairie, twin sons Keith A. (Christine) Stellick of Geneva, Ill., and Kevin I. (Sarah) Stellick of Rising City, Neb., Daniel L. (Lisa) Stellick of Geneva, Ill., Deeanna L. (Rick) Van Pelt of Batavia, Ill.

Betty leaves in this world 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Betty is also survived by one sister, Barbara Pagenkopf of Kenosha and one brother, Ken Egvedt (Vicky) of Hurley, and many nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Loretta and Isaac, and two sisters, Patricia Blosser and Nancy Seiberlich.

Betty leaves us with her profession of faith- " I confess joyfully that Jesus is my Savior. I have no doubt about my being saved by Him or my being in heaven. God promises, 'The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ, our Lord'- Rom. 6:23. I ask my husband and my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom I love and who have brought me great joy, never to forget these instructions of Christ to be faithful to Him until death and to proclaim His Gospel to every nation. Share God's Word of Salvation in Christ with everyone and everywhere you go in this world. May God grant you peace, love, and strength as He guides you through this life. Then, at the end of time we will be reunited in heaven as part of God's family."

A Celebration of Life for Betty Jane Stellick will take place on June 25, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, 160 North Brown St. Rhinelander, WI. Interment at Northland Memorial Park at 2 p.m. followed by a service and a fellowship luncheon at Zion Lutheran Church at 3 p.m.
