Hodags' Lawrence added to WBCA All-Star Game roster
Lawrence's name was added to the Division 2 North team's roster last week. She is the only Great Northern Conference representative on the D2 North squad, which will take on the D2 South team at JustAGame Fieldhouse.
Lawrence averaged 22.6 points per game this season - which accounted for 44.6% of the Hodags' scoring this season. She proved to be a consistent threat, as she scored in double figures in all 25 of Rhinelander's contests this year, and was named a unanimous first team All-Great Northern Conference selection.
Lawrence finished with 564 points on the season and surpassed 1,000 points for her career Jan. 19 in a home victory over Ashland.
The WBCA All-Star Game event will take place July 14 and 15 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. The girls' All-Star games, beginning with Division 5 and ending with Division 1, will take place July 14, with the boys' All-Star games taking place July 15. Ross Skeen will be representing the Hodags in the D2 boys' All-Star Game.
The event is a fundraiser for the MACC (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) Fund. According to the WBCA's website, it has contributed more than $2.2 million to the MACC Fund since 1978.
The event is typically held in mid-June, but was pushed back this year to accommodate the later finish of the WIAA spring sports season. Last year's All-Star events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rhinelander girls' players Kenedy Van Zile and Cynthia Beavers, and head coach Ryan Clark were all scheduled to participate in last year's event.
