Virginia Amy Grant, age 89 of Rhinelander, passed away on March 30 following a long-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She died peacefully at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Rhinelander and is now in the arms of her loving Savior.

Virginia, a life-long resident of Rhinelander, was born to Stanley and Myrtle Bowman in 1932. She was one of 17 children in a hard-working family, growing up during the Depression. Her roots would give her the strength and work ethic that would be her backbone throughout her life.

Virginia graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1950. In order to do so, she would first have to move into town from her home in the country at the age of 14. She worked for a local family as a nanny for room and board so that she could complete her education. Following high school, she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1953 she married Gary Grant of Rhinelander, her husband of 67 years.

Gary and Virginia would have four children whom they raised in Rhinelander. Virginia was devoted to her children and spent decades at home raising their family. She was active as a Boy Scouts Den Mother, volunteered at South Park Elementary and Immanuel Lutheran Church and frequently hosted neighborhood friends for coffee. She enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, embroidery, and ballroom dancing. She never missed a birthday or anniversary of friends and family and loved to send greeting cards for these occasions. She was also an incredible cook, baker and impeccable caretaker of her home.

Her greatest joy was found in spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years, she enjoyed time at home on Lake Julia, as well as trips to many parts of the country to spend time with family. She will be missed so much for her loving kindness, selfless spirit, and genuine, giving heart.

Virginia is survived by her children: Greg (Gail), of Reisterstown, Md.; Jeff (Bert), of Rhinelander; Scott (Karyn Hansen) of Rhinelander; Kathy (Jeff) Fedorchak, of Fairfax, Va.; sisters, Vivian Angerer; Jane Boynton; and brother, Hugh Bowman. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Grant; her granddaughter, Kari Grant; and her daughter-in-law, Rose.

Private family services for Virginia will be held at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rennes Health & Rehab Center - Rhinelander. You may leave your private condolences for the Grant family at www.carlsonfh.com.
