Northwoods Art Tour to feature array of artistry
Self-guided tours offered Oct. 9-11
By Stephanie Kuski-
The self-guided tour will be both in-person and virtual this season.
Due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic, artists decided individually how to safely open their studios for the fall tour.
Of the 39 participating studios and three guests artists, 21 studios will be open as usual and five will be open by appointment only. Some studios will only be offering tours by appointment while others will be closed altogether or will feature online exclusive options for viewing and sales.
Open studios will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Oct. 9-11. All open studios and galleries will be following recommended safety guidelines and visitors should be prepared to wear masks, use hand sanitizer and practice social distancing.
Guests will be invited into the artists' creative spaces, where artists will have the opportunity to share their work and discuss their creative process. Each tour offers a unique experience for both visitors and artists as each studio offers something different.
Studios are similar to an open house, in which visitors are welcome to come and go freely and select studios based on available time and interests.
A wide range of artistic modalities will be featured in the fall tour, including pottery, paintings in a variety of media, photography, fiber works, clay and wood sculptures, jewelry, handmade furniture and more.
All are welcome to join in on the arts-filled weekend - those interested in gaining more knowledge about the artists' creative process as well as those simply browsing for a one-of-a-kind gift or eclectic home decor.
Galleries open to the public for the fall tour include Odonata Gallery in Mercer; Arlene's Pottery & Gallery, Moondeer & Friends and Studio 57 in Boulder Junction; Birch Bark Studio and Den Hill Photography in Manitowish Waters; the Waite Studios in Arbor Vitae; Schneider et Fille Pottery in Minocqua; Pigeon Road Pottery in Lake Tomahawk; Bear Paw Pottery in St. Germain; BJChristian Designs in Rhinelander; Johanna B Ceramics and Woodesign in Eagle River; Steve's Handcrafted Furniture and Blossoms Studio in Land O'Lakes; and many more.
A complete list of open studios - as well as those open to the public by appointment and those featuring online sales - is available at www.northwoodsarttour.com.
Brochures featuring each studio, as well as driving directions, contact information and a map are available at area chambers of commerce and the Northwoods Art Tour website, but the updated status of each studio is available exclusively online.
