Skip was born on Sunday, March 14, 1954, in Rhinelander, to George E. and Lillian I. (Moore) O'Brien.
He was raised in Rhinelander and attended school in Rhinelander. Skip was united in marriage to Kathy Sommers in Rhinelander and they later were divorced. George enjoyed traveling before he developed multiple sclerosis. Skip enjoyed hitchhiking throughout the United States and had been to almost all 50 states.
He had a strong Catholic faith and enjoyed his aunt Alice reading to him, especially the Bible. Skip loved his family and enjoyed attending family parties and gatherings.
He is survived by two children, Shannon and Megan; brothers, Gregory (Lorrie) O'Brien of California and Gerard O'Brien of Rhinelander; loving aunt and guardian, Patricia Raske of Rhinelander; aunts, Alice Simmons of Rhinelander, Marjorie (Joseph) Gechas of Rhinelander and Joann O'Brien of Rhinelander. Also surviving are other relatives and friends, especially his friends at Sekara Group Home in Weston.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lillian O'Brien; son Sean O'Brien, sister Gwena Rose O'Brien, maternal grandparents Clifford "Bud" and Zada Smith, paternal grandparents George and Hazel O'Brien, and many aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring of 2021.
