Dick was born in Lombard, Ill. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1929, to Henry and Estelle (Kubala) Siede.
He was raised in Lombard and was a 1948 graduate of Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Upon graduating from high school, Dick moved to northern Wisconsin, living in Athelstane, Wis. and being employed as a cook at the Wausaukee Club. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Korean War.
Dick was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1953. He met his future wife Janice Ecker at church and the couple were married on Sept. 18, 1954 at the Ecker family home. The couple settled in Antigo, living there from 1954 until 1958. During this time, Dick was employed as an electrician with Healy Electric. The family then moved to Fort Atkinson, where Dick began his career as a service technician for Montgomery Ward Department Store. In 1960 the Siede family moved to Rhinelander where Dick continued his career as a service technician. He made the service department so efficient that it became the third best department of Montgomery Ward in the country. Dick was employed for almost 25 years with the department store. Dick was employed from 1982 until 1985 at Frasier's Plumbing and Heating as a technician. He then was employed in Conover, with Jensen's Hardware where Dick was the head technician from 1985 until he retired in 1992. In 1989, Dick and Jan moved to Land O' Lakes to manage a family estate for 22 years. In 2011 the couple retired from caretaking and moved to Three Lakes.
Dick enjoyed camping and fishing and considered himself an outdoor enthusiast. But most of all, he loved reading, keeping up with current events and enjoying spending time with his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Janice; his children: Patricia K. (Jim) Casavant of Jamestown, North Dakota, Pamela J. (Jon) Pence of Rhinelander and Richard M. (Lisa) Siede of Waterloo, Wis.; three grandchildren: Brad Siede and fiancée, Tabitha Backman of Irmo, South Carolina, Zach Siede of Irmo, South Carolina and Jesse Casavant of Minneapolis, Minn. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Richard Holben of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dick is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Judy Holben and Joyce (Ken) Batchelder.
At Dick's request, there will be no visitation or service.
Military Honors will take place at a later date.
