After the move back to Harshaw, Edward and Janet started a saw sharpening business out of their home. Edward would cut mostly oak trees from his own property, dry the wood and then sell it to the cabinet makers, woodworkers, and carvers. Edward was a good woodworker himself making many end tables, coffee tables, a dining room table, lamps, and many a candlestick on his wood lathe.
Edward was also very active in the community, he enjoyed deer hunting but also taught classes in hunter safety and boating safety for the DNR. He was a member of the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge and an assistant Boy Scout leader in Harshaw. Edward went on many scouting camp outs, one in particular in Key West, Fla. that was cut short due to a hurricane. He also served on the Rhinelander school board and was known as the "picture person" because he would take paintings to the elementary schools and talk about the painting and the artist. One of the greatest times of Edward's life was the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in October of 2014. He enjoyed it so much that he returned a year later with his son Paul and his family for a whole week to revisit all of the sites. The two most important things in his life were his family and his faith. Edward was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander.
Edward is survived by his wife Janet of Rhinelander, daughter Sharon Hull of Rhinelander, son Paul l(Roxanne Hammer) Perdew of McFarland, grandchildren Gavin and Cooper Perdew, and Tyler and Lucas Brummer; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold and Eugene Perdew, and nephew Gary Perdew.
Edward was very proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. He will always be remembered by his grandsons as the "grandpa who taught them to shoot".
A visitation for Edward will be held at the Carlson Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m. You may leave your private condolences for the Perdew Family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the family.
