These organizations worked together to give each kid a jersey, long sleeved t-shirt, mouth guard. The groups were split into two age groups - second and third graders in one group and fourth, fifth and sixth graders in the other.
According to YMCA Youth Director Matt Steingraber said, despite only advertising for a week before the start date, the Y had 52 players participate from seven area schools, and 13 volunteer coaches which allowed the Y to keep groups small and limit contact between players.
"Now more than ever these kids needed an opportunity to run and play in a safe setting. This year we had to make a lot of safety changes as kids were grouped by school, required to sanitize hands before and after practice, played at a new field location, and didn't have the luxury of having our traditional high school player coaches. You couldn't tell anything was different from the smiles on all their faces," Steingraber said. "I cannot thank these parents enough for their help in making this year a huge success!"
