She was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Felix and Victoria (Furtak) Rhode. On Dec. 2, 1950, she married John Denton at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rhinelander. They raised three children together.
Virginia had many jobs throughout her life. Her most memorable of them was working as a greeter at the Rhinelander Wal-Mart store. In her free time she liked to bowl, play softball, and knit. She also enjoyed passing time at the casino. She loved her animals, especially her dog, Sheba.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Shirley (Mel) Raskin of Eau Claire, Michael Denton of New Richland Hills, Texas, and Patrick Denton of Dewey, Ariz.; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Donna) Rhode of Janesville, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one granddaughter, one sister and four brothers.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhinelander.
Burial will be held in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to mass.
