Rose was born in Rhinelander on May 16, 1930, to Edward and Rose Gotz. In her youth, Rose loved playing the accordion and saxophone with her father at local taverns. Later in life she could be easily coaxed into bringing out her instruments and playing for friends and family.
Rose enjoyed taking care of her home and yard, and continued to do so up until her passing. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies including bowling, horseback riding, polka dancing, and playing with her shih-tzus. After leaving Rhinelander as a young adult, Rose raised her family in Green Bay. In 1987 Rose returned to Rhinelander to enjoy retirement.
Rose will be profoundly missed by her family. Rose is survived by her children, Linda (Varga) Wranik and Joseph "Butch" (Jewell) Varga; siblings Betty Newman and Edward "Sonny" Gotz; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and grandparents, brother-in-law Russel Newman, and sister-in-law Darlene Gotz. Rose is also survived by her special friend Joseph Graf with whom she shared the last 20+ years.
Rose's family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Amanda, Linda, and the other outstanding staff of Ascension Hospice for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hildebrand Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rose Koshak Memorial Fund at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
On Saturday, please use the Davenport Street entrance at the funeral home. The sanitizing of hands and the wearing of masks will be required at the funeral home.
