William was born in Melrose Park on Aug. 16, 1938, son of William A. and Antoinette Russo Tregler.
William grew up on Chicago's south side and attended local schools. He became an over-the-road truck driver and saw much of the country, receiving many commendations for his driving. His family always called him the "King of the Road". He once received an award for driving over four million miles accident free. William later moved to Milwaukee and raised his children.
In 1989 he met Christina Tomasetti. They moved to Rhinelander and were united in marriage on Sept. 30, 2005.
William was a big man with a big heart. He enjoyed fishing, trucks and cars - especially his 447 Oldsmobile and his Camero - and driving his Harley in earlier years. He was very proud of his Italian heritage.
Survivors include his loving wife and caretaker Christina of Rhinelander, daughter Renae (Tim), his five sons Michael, Matthew (fiancée Sandy), Mark, Martin (Traci), and Mark "Bug" (Sandy). He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, sister Margaret Lopez, good friend Tim Karr, loving dog Charlie II, other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving canine companions Charlie and Comet.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. He will be laid to rest at Northland Memorial Park in Rhinelander.
