Hodag Farmers Market report: A feast for the eyes
By Cassie Shefchik-
I could be heard murmuring as I put everything back as it was when I was finished. No one paid much attention to me as I went about my merry way.
I always put their things back as I found them. Now, the same does not hold true when I visit other people's homes. I never take anything but I've been known to rearrange, add a small surprise, and go about my merry way.
A lovely arrangement gobsmacked me when I first arrived at last week's farmers' market.
A stunning array was already set up alongside a red pickup truck. Several vendors had wonderful, tall corn stalks stacked alongside their vehicles or trailers and right next to the base of the corn stalks were pumpkins galore!
The market had so many items that could be used to decorate inside and outside the home: dried floral arrangements in bouquets, swags, and wreaths, fresh flower bouquets, gourds, winter squash (yes, they can be used for decorating for a few weeks or more), and pumpkins.
While some vendor tables are loaded with wonderful, yummy, fresh produce, others have a large variety of homemade jams, jellies, apple butter, sauerkraut, pickles, salsas, and BBQ sauce.
We also have a vendor who sells coffee which you can buy by the cup or simply pick up freshly roasted grounds to take home and brew.
You can find baked goods at the market, too.
A stroll through the market is truly a feast for the eyes.
The Hodag Farmers Market will be held at Rhinelander's Pioneer Park this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The last market for this year will be held Oct. 17.
