Jerry was raised in Rhinelander, by Berl and Laura Winchell, graduated from Rhinelander High School, and entered the U.S. Army.
After his honorable discharge from the service, Jerry moved to Milwaukee, and completed a Machinist Apprenticeship program. It was during this time that he married the love of his life, Judy (Hageny), on Sept. 21, 1963.
The family moved back to the Rhinelander area in 1967, where Jerry was employed at the U.S. Post Office until his retirement.
Jerry loved hunting, fishing, playing cards with family and friends, and most of all, being involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife, Judy, and is survived by his sisters Sally (Voigt) of Kingston, Ariz., and Deborah (Martin) of Rhinelander.
After a brief ceremony, Jerry and Judy's ashes will be interred together at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lodi.
Gerald's family is very grateful for all the love, care, support, kind words and prayers which have been offered during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Jerry may be directed to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, 600 Coon Street, Rhinelander, WI 54501.
