Bill was born in Joliet, Ill. on July 22, 1933, to Harry and Isabelle A. (Witt) Meurer.
He was raised in Lockport, Ill. and was a 1950 graduate of Lockport High School. Upon completion of high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy for two years as an electrician. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Pittsburgh. He returned to Lockport and was employed with TEXACO. He then was employed for the next 17 years with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. In 1974 Bill moved to Rhinelander, working for Twist Drill for 10 years as a machine oiler.
He was united in marriage to Julia Mae Anderson in 1951 in Lockport, Ill. until 1967 when they divorced. He later was united in marriage to Joan F. Chorak in 1968 in Elgin, Ill.
Bill was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, but most of all Bill enjoyed spending time with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years, Joan; children: Coleen (Donald) Herman of Rhinelander, William A. (Lisa) Meurer of Irma, Thomas A. Meurer of North Pole, Alaska and Robert J. Meurer of Rhinelander. Also surviving are five grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Bill is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Louis Meurer in 2010 and a brother, Harry Meurer in 2017.
Private family entombment will be held at Northland Memorial Park.
