Linda Ann Prei, 71, passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander.

Linda was born on Dec. 31, 1948 to Peter and Shirley (Zumach) Terzynski in Rhinelander. She was a 1967 graduate of Rhinelander Union High School, where she was the Junior Prom Queen. She later attended flight attendant school in Kansas City, Mo. After living in Chicago for a short time, Linda returned home and began work at Lakeland Medical in Minocqua before returning to Rhinelander in 1980 to become office manager for Dr. Paul Figge. On Sept. 14, 1968, Linda married Dale Burbie and together had two children David (Trisha) Burbie of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Michele (Dan) Macak of Rhinelander.

Later she was united in marriage with Gene Prei in 1981. In February 1987, Linda fell victim to a massive stroke that left her in a coma for one month and paralyzed on her left side. Despite all of this, she maintained her witty and humorous personality and smiled through adversity. Along with her new way of living and the challenges it presented, Linda was determined to receive her driver's license in order to be independent. Linda found interest in hobbies to keep her active and was an avid reader. One particular hobby, genealogy, became a major focus as she loved learning about her family's history and she was a go-to resource for all family members. Linda loved to travel and was able to make wonderful memories with her children and grandchildren. Highlights include trips to North Carolina, Florida, Key West (for her son's engagement), California and an Alaskan cruise. Linda (aka Nene to some grandchildren) was a person of great love and understanding and was strong enough to carry on in her life with new challenges every day. Linda was an enormous inspiration to her children. The love and perseverance she taught them has helped carry Michele and David through many of life's challenges and has helped them be the best they can.

She will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren whom she treasured and loved with all her heart. Survivors include son David (Trisha) of Eden Prairie, Minn; daughter Michele (Dan) Macak of Rhinelander; sister Diana Kirby of Rhinelander; grandchildren Drew, Katherine, Jackson and Elizabeth Burbie; Katie (Travis) Polinske; Taylor and Garret Macak; nephews, and a niece. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen Burbie; and sisters Reida Rick and Laura Robinson.

Friends may gather together on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hildebrand-Russ funeral home in Rhinelander with the eulogy at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will commence at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at Nativity of our Lord Church (125 E. King Street, Rhinelander). For the safety of the family and the Rhinelander community, when entering the funeral home and the church, hands will need to be sanitized and the wearing of masks and social distancing will be required. The family suggests that memorials be made in Linda's name to the American Heart Association.
