Since Nov. 28 is Small Business Saturday, and with several holiday event cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the week-long Holiday Open House comes at an opportune time for both patrons and downtown business owners.
The open house is typically held every year during opening weekend of hunting season, but given restrictions on indoor gatherings, the event has been extended to ensure sufficient distancing.
Business owners are encouraged to decorate their windows for the festivities and will be judged Nov. 20 through Dec. 20. Monetary prizes will be determined by a panel of independent judges.
Patrons will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite window with a People's Choice category.
Voting will take place via a SurveyMonkey link and QR code available in participating stores.
Patrons who visit all 25 participating stores will also be entered to "win the window," which will be located at Lund & Taylor Bridal Gallerie on Brown Street. Each participating business will donate a gift to be displayed in the window, and the winning participant will win everything on display - a value ranging from $800 to $1,000, according to Robin Harrison, owner of Revitalized Boutique and DRI chairperson for the event.
Some businesses will also be offering special sales while others will feature unique holiday gifts.
Look for snowflakes in the windows of participating downtown businesses for an entry form to win the window as well as a full list of participating businesses.
