High winds appear to have been the cause for the collapse Monday night of initial trusswork for the new brine building on the grounds of the Oneida County Highway Department on Kemp Street in Rhinelander. Brownell Construction of Crandon is the contractor for the project, coming in at a cost totalling around $500,000. Oneida County highway commissioner Bruce Stefonek said Tuesday work on the building began during the last part of October and the contractor had just started to install trusses Monday. He said the contractor's insurance is expected to cover the cost of the damage, but the trusswork will have to start over. "Because this is a commercial building, none of the materials can really be used," Stefonek said. "They can't salvage anything."
