Barb was born on Dec. 19, 1936, in Rhinelander, to parents Albert and Florence (Schulstrom) Onson. She graduated from Rhinelander High School and continued her education, graduating from Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing. She was united in marriage on July 19, 1958 to Charles "Chuck" Goossen at the First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander. The couple lived in Great Falls, Mont. and St. Paul, Minn. before settling in Hudson in 1962. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Anne, Tom, Mary, Jill and Mark. Barb worked as a registered nurse and was a longtime nursing supervisor in Hudson. Her professionalism and empathy toward others is why many of her coworkers thought of her as a great nurse/supervisor as well as a good friend.
Barb was a woman of great dignity and virtue. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She received great gratification as a board member of the United Methodist Church. Her civic duties also allowed her to serve on the board of directors for The Christian Community Home in Hudson. She also took pleasure in nurturing her flower gardens, as she loved daisies. For a relaxing day she could be found reading historical publications. Her children will also have fond memories of her cooking and baking, whether rhubarb crisp, Christmas cookies, or some good old comfort food - hotdish!
Barb will remain in the hearts of her children, Mary (Kurt) Becken, Jill (Troy) Jorgenson, and Mark (Jenn) Goossen; grandchildren: Lily and Sean Becken, Scott (Hannah) and Sherry Jorgenson, and Eric and Henry Goossen; siblings Sue (Dave) Russ, Rick (Linda) Onson, sister-in-law Royanne Goossen, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughter, Anne; son, Tom; her parents, and siblings Bob and Jenny Onson.
A memorial service will be planned in the future at the United Methodist Church. Cards for Barb's family can be mailed to: O'Connell Family Funeral Home, Care of Barbara Goossen Family, 520 S. 11th St. Hudson, WI 54016, to be forwarded on your behalf. The family deeply appreciates all thoughts & prayers extended to them during this time. Memorials are preferred to the Hudson United Methodist Church.
