Tiffany sworn into Congress
Tiffany, who took the oath of office from House speaker Nancy Pelosi, will fill the unexpired term of Sean Duffy, who resigned the seat last year. Tiffany defeated his Democratic challenger, Tricia Zunker, by a substantial margin in a May 12 special election. Zunker is running again in the fall election.
Tiffany has served in the state Legislature since 2010, serving one term in the Assembly and elected for two terms to the state Senate.
"When I was first elected to the State Assembly in 2010, lawmakers faced a $3.6 billion budget deficit, taxes and fees were high and confidence was low for small business owners," Tiffany said this week. "Over the years, legislative Republicans turned that deficit into a surplus, cut taxes by more than $13 billion, froze tuition for hard-working families, defended our 2nd Amendment, and protected the unborn."
After being sworn in, Tiffany gave his first floor speech.
"My message is simple," Tiffany said. "Ten years ago I was given the great privilege to represent the people of northern Wisconsin in the state Legislature. I made one commitment to them - to advance the cause of freedom and liberty."
And that commitment remained the same, he told his fellow representatives.
"Today I make that same commitment to the good people of northern and western Wisconsin - to fight for those same enduring ideals that form the foundation of this American Republic," he said.
Tiffany thanked his mother, Virgal Tiffany, whom he said raised his seven brothers and sisters with love and devotion in the town of Elmwood, Wisconsin, along with his deceased father, Pat Tiffany.
"I am here today, Mom, because of the persistence and determination you have lived your life by every day," he said.
Tiffany also thanked his family for standing with him for all the years.
"And finally to my wife, Chris, and our three daughters, Karlyn, Lexie and Katherine, I hope you are as excited as I am, as we turn the pages to a new chapter in our lives," he said.
During the campaign for Congress, Tiffany vowed to be an ally of President Trump and to help him drain the swamp in Washington.
Tiffany has lived in the seventh congressional district for more than 30 years. He owned and operated Wilderness Cruises for 20 years and has worked as a dam tender for 25 years on the Willow Flowage. He is a former town supervisor in the town of Little Rice and served on the Oneida County Economic Development Board of Directors.
