Dale Cook
Dale joined the US Air Force at the tender age of 17. Wise and witty beyond his years, even when they found out his true age, they didn't send him back. Dale met Naomi "Pat" Jackson while serving at the Lakeland AFB and they were married shortly thereafter. They returned to Grand Rapids, Minn. where Dale became a bill collector, a job he really hated. His brother Jerry told him about a job opportunity working for Schultz's Family Store and Dale applied. Blessed with a charismatic personality and Irish wit Dale was hired. He was promoted many times over the years and in 1974 was moved to Rhinelander to open a 55,000 square foot store. He remained there as manager until its closing in 1988. He then took a job at Schroeder's Chrysler and did very well, given his outgoing personality. He retired from Schroeder's and enjoyed life and all his many interests.
Later in life Dale met and then married Margaret "Marge" Sheehan. Marge and Dale enjoyed an active social life and loved playing golf together. They had many good years together until Marge preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2015.
Dale was an active member of the community. He was a longtime active member of the Rhinelander Lions Club and held many offices, including president. He was also a longtime member of the Rhinelander Country Club and served as president of the club for a term. Dale was a gifted athlete. He had bowled numerous 300 games, won many golf tournaments and was a fierce racketball competitor. He took pride in being able to compete and beat those much younger than him especially his son, Phil. Dale was always a fierce competitor in all he did and you were always happy to have him on your team. He loved all sports, and despite him being born in Minnesota, he saw the light and was an avid fan of all Wisconsin sports teams. Dale was a fun-loving Irishman with a quick wit and a love of a good whiskey. Raise a glass of Jameson in his name and wish him the best in his new journey. Heaven will never be the same.
Dale is survived by his son, Philip D (Marcy) Cook, his daughter Tammy (Robert) Kecker, his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and were known to them as "Poppy", Heather, Robert, Michael and Brent, his 10 great- grandchildren, his sister Donna K. (George) Barse, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
In addition to Marge, Dale was preceded in death by his daughter Gloria, his parents Walter and Sylvia Cook, his stepfather Albert Bonnick, his brother Gerald and his wife Bette, his sister Connie "Bubbles" and her husband Kenneth Matthews and his first wife, Pat.
A visitation for Dale and graveside services will be held at a later date.
He will be buried in the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery, next to Marge. You may leave your private condolences for Dale's family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Cook family.
