Eagle River Speedway juggles schedule, eyes June 23 opener
"With the current COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent "safer-at-home" edict that was enacted by Governor Evers back in March, most state businesses were thrown for a loop and many were forced to keep their doors closed," a track press release stated. "As the state of Wisconsin and the United States begin to slowly and safely open back up Eagle River Speedway has been no exception."
"We are going to open up once we have more guidance as to how we can do this safely," said Pat Zdroik. "We have always wanted everyone to enjoy the show and be safe. That includes staff, fans and drivers. The virus brings a new safety issue for us to deal with. We don't want to rush and do this prematurely. We need to do this right the first time or we might lose the rest of the season."
The Tuesday night program will once again be highlighted by the B modified class which combines multiple different rules packages from a bevy of sanctioning bodies. Other divisions will include street stocks, stock cars, 600 micro sprints, junior sprints and the track's newest division - the late models. The division will feature either the Eagle River Speedway-legal B modified motors, the Chevrolet GM 602 crate powerplant or the GM 604 crate with a restrictor plate. The class will also showcase a $150 shock claim rule and a pair of harder compound tire choices (Hoosier WRS-2, Hoosier D-55 and the American Racer MD-56) - all designed to help curb costs.
With a new division being added, one class is being eliminated. Due to low car counts there will no longer be weekly four-cylinder racing at Eagle River Speedway in 2020.
