The point guard received honorable mention on the Associated Press' All-State girls' basketball team released Wednesday.
Van Zile, who earlier this month received All-State honors in Division 2 from the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, averaged 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 4.1 steals per game this season for the Hodags and was the Great Northern Conference co-player of the year - sharing the award with teammate Cynthia Beavers. Van Zile also became the all-time leading scorer in RHS basketball history this season, finishing with 1,670 career points. Unlike the WBCA, which puts out a separate All-State team for each of the five WIAA basketball divisions, the AP list groups players across all divisions together. Five players each made the APs first, second, third and fourth teams. Another 44 players received honorable mention.
The father-daughter duo of Dave and Lexi Donarski of La Crosse Aquinas were voted the AP's coach and player of the year. Lexi Donarski and Racine Lutheran's Caroline Strand were unanimous first-team selections as were Maddison Baker of West Bend West, Leilani Kapinus of Madison Memorials and Maty Wilke of Beaver Dam. Two players the Hodags faced this year - Stevens Point's Leah Earnest and Hortonville's Macy McGlone - were on the AP second team. Van Zile was the only player from the Northwoods to make the list.
