She was born a fraternal twin daughter of Carl and Edna Krogman, on Feb. 20, 1953 at Sacred Heart Hospital on Dewey Street in Eau Claire.
She began her education at Randall Elementary with all of her many siblings and a neighborhood of friends. Summer days were spent at Half Moon Lake Beach with brothers, sisters and friends where she became a very strong swimmer. She walked the halls in droves between classes at the Eau Claire Junior High School on Main Street and went on to Memorial High.
In her junior year, she joined her mother in the conversion to the Seventh Day Adventist faith and a life as a vegetarian. Her faith led her to the Wisconsin Academy where she graduated from high school along with cherished friends that she has enjoyed for a lifetime.
With barely a penny to her name she left the comforts of family and friends and mustered the courage to travel on her own to Berrien Springs, Mich. and Andrews University, without any means to pay for tuition or a place to live. She trusted the Lord in her quest for a career of service to others and was taken in by a family who enabled her to start at the university.
She received her nursing degree from Kettering College. Soon she returned to Eau Claire and began a lifelong career in public health and home care nursing beginning at the Eau Claire and Dunn County Health Care Centers. Here she met Kevin Mahoney, her future husband. Marcia and Kevin were married on June 5, 1977 at the Ecumenical Center on the campus of University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Following their honeymoon in Maine they were off to Rhinelander to begin their married life. It is here that Marcia became a Public Health Nurse for Oneida County.
On a cool fall day in 1977, Marcia and Kevin found their first home, a modest cottage on a quiet lake called Emma. It is here that their children, Kelly and Ryan, started their lives, born at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander. While she continued her career in nursing, and Kevin for the school district, her children took pleasure in the swimming, boating and fishing that this little lake could offer.
She moved with her family to Waukesha in 1990. She was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association and provided home care throughout the Milwaukee and Waukesha area including many visits to aid those in the extremely impoverished neighborhoods of the inner city, In 1992 her family moved again to Sheboygan, and she continued her career there caring for those in need of medical assistance in their homes.
In 1996 she moved with her family back to her childhood home, Eau Claire. She was a Home Care Nurse for Northwest Home Care as her children grew and graduated from high school. Her home care nursing continued with Community Health Partnership and finally Life Net where she retired in 2012.
She centered her life around her children. Devoted to raising two children her affection was instilled in them and in the lives of countless others who came along in those childhood years. She relished being with them, caring for them, welcoming them and taking them to wherever more fun would be. They shined in her presence. Many she touched in their developing years remember her today for her forgiving smile, open arms, gentle spirit and loving heart.
Her generosity and kindness had no bounds. As a home care nurse she daily soothed the sick and dying, without complaint. She took on their burdens as her own and her patients felt her healing hand, willful heart and endless patience.
She loved the outdoors. The early years included backpacking, camping, canoeing, and in the long Northern Wisconsin winters downhill and cross country skiing. Her children followed her in their love for these pursuits. Camping to her meant fun for the kids and she travelled and camped with them far and wide.
Marcia had a very active and healthy lifestyle with her family, with summertime on the water at the lake, skiing the mountains of Colorado, camping and traveling. Her joy of reading often led her to scripture. She was a devout Seventh Day Adventist, following her Bible and scripture along with hours spent in spiritual reading and prayer. She never wavered in her faith and the practices of her church.
Her precious granddaughter, Kiely, now has a quiet place deep in her heart forever for her "Nana." She will reside in her soul to comfort and guide her all the days of her life.
She was preceded in death by parents, Edna (Snow) Krogman, Carl Krogman; her father-in-law, W.J. "Bill" Mahoney Jr.; two sisters, Pam (Krogman) Boos and Cindy (Krogman) Johnson; stepbrother, Dan Burdick and a brother-in-law, Harry Johnson.
She is survived by her mother-in-law, Rowene (Gabriel) Mahoney; husband, Kevin; a son Ryan, a daughter Kelly and her granddaughter, Kiely, all of Eau Claire; sisters Carla (Scott) Adrianson, Racine; Michele (Krogman) Opelt, Altoona; brothers Tim (Renee) Krogram, Stevens Point, Dennis (Roxanne) Krogman, Danbury; stepbrother, Dave (Kathy) Burdick, Montgomery, Texas. Her loving family members in Colorado and many nephews, nieces and cousins and dear friends in Rhinelander and Eau Claire.
Due to the Covid-19 concern and bans on public gatherings, Marcia's service will be private family with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. A celebration of life service will take place at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
