St. Pierre swam the 100-yard breaststroke placing 85th out of 98 swimmers in that event. Winnicki swam the 200 freestyle placing 22nd out of 47 swimmers and set a new RSC record for the girls' 13-14 age group with her time of 2:00.16.
"I am so proud of the 13 & over state qualifiers. The older an athlete gets, the harder the state cuts are to obtain," said head coach Megan Cihla. "I'm especially proud of Noelle for achieving her first ever USA state cut. She has been swimming since August, first with the RHS team and then joining RSC when the high school season ended. That is a lot of time in the pool. She has been working hard and it shows. This past week, both of the girls have been focusing on their speed work, thinking about the technical sides of their races. The girls took those strategies applied them to their races and truly represented Rhinelander Swim Club."
A pair of members of the Rhinelander High School girls' swim team also competed, with Lisa Kennedy placing 72nd in the 100 backstroke and Makenna Winnicki taking 65th in the 100 butterfly.
A week prior six RSC swimmers took part in the state 12 and under Short Course State Championship in Brown Deer.
Samson Shinners, 12, set club records in the 50 freestyle (25.30), 500 freestyle (5:27.18) and the 200 backstroke (2:25.44) during the event. He finished first in the 200 freestyle, third in the 500 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, sixth in the 50 freestyle, 10th in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 200 backstroke.
Also competing for the Hodags were:
Brock Arrowood (12) - 50 freestyle 35th, 200 freestyle 20th, 100 butterfly 24th, 50 backstroke 29th. 100 freestyle 28th, 50 butterfly 23rd;
Dean Gillingham (9) - 50 breaststroke 26th, 50 butterfly 25th, 50 freestyle 44th;
Vivian Lamers (11) - 50 breaststroke 81st, 100 breaststroke 67th, 50 butterfly 84th;
Rylee Mickevicius (10) - 50 butterfly 53rd, 200 IM 32nd, 100 butterfly 31st and
Ella Miljevich (10) - 50 breaststroke 23rd, 100 breaststroke 16th, 100 IM 38th.
"The state meet is something our swimmers strive to qualify for and work hard to achieve," Cihla said. "Rylee Mickevicius, Ella Miljevich, and Dean Gillingham had their first appearance at the state meet this past weekend. They all overcame their nerves and swam their hearts out and appeared to love every minute of it. Vivian Lamers, Brock Arrowood, and Samson Shinners fought for every race, making their races extremely fun to watch. These athletes had great time drops, proved to be very coachable, and were excellent team players! I not only enjoy watching these athletes do their best in the pool but I also enjoy watching them take pride in their team and what their teammates area accomplishing! I could not be more proud of this group!"
