Michael was born Jan. 10, 1946, in Rhinelander, to Elmer and Violet (Tober) Kuehl.
He married Julene Lavender on July 20, 1974. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and served in the National Guard.
Michael began his career in radio in 1962, at the age of 16, at WOBT in Rhinelander.
He hosted programs with many radio stations throughout Wisconsin, as well as KSTP Radio in St. Paul, Minn.
His love of music drew him to Madison, where, in 1971, he and his friends/business partners built and ran Full Compass Recording Studios.
Mike recorded the first albums for many of today's Madison staples, and later recorded several local Northwoods bands in his home-studio in Rhinelander.
Michael was a HAM Radio enthusiast and an avid record collector.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Gary. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julene Kuehl, his sister; Noreen (Mel) Rose of Appleton, daughters, Laura (Jerry) Simons of Middlebury, Ind., Shasta Kuehl of Rhinelander, his son, Michael Kuehl Jr. of Madison; three grandchildren: Thomas, Adam and Kaitlin Simons and three nephews, John, Gary and Steven Rose.
Per Michael's request, there will be no formal services at this time.
