He was born Oct. 18, 1949, in Rhinelander, to Stanley and Lorraine (Leiskau) Szopa. He grew up in Three Lakes and graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1968.
He moved to Milwaukee in 1969. In 2011 he retired from GE Medical Systems. He returned to Three Lakes in 2012.
Jean was preceded in death by his parents, his sister June and his brother Rodger. He is survived by his nephew Tim (Jennie) Menting and his niece Julie (Scott) Kloiber, both of Appleton, as well as a sister-in-law Mary Szopa of Three Lakes.
The family would like to thank his best friend Gary Maney and his friend Larry Matson for their help, caring, and compassion for the last 6 months. Also thanks to the rehab staff at Friendly Village and the Hospice workers.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Three Lakes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Jean's name to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or your favorite charity.
