Conrad "Connie" C. Kurilla, age 82 of the Town of Crescent, passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital.

Connie was born on Friday, March 18, 1938, in Rhinelander, to Anton and Clara T. (Trakselis) Kurilla. Conrad met his future wife, Joan A. Rolain through mutual friends and were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Sept. 12, 1959. The couple made their home in Rhinelander. Connie served in the National Guard and was stationed in Tacoma, Wash. After he finished serving in the National Guard, the family moved back to Rhinelander. Connie was full of the entrepreneurial spirit and upon returning to Rhinelander he along with Joan operated the Hob Nob Bar until 1964. The couple then ran the Malt Shop on Davenport Street from 1964 until 1972. In 1972 Connie then owned and operated a carpet store for five years called Country Carpets. He then converted that building into an apartment complex. This was just the beginning of ownership of various properties in Rhinelander.

Conrad was admired by all for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and practical jokes. He helped us all by approaching problems using his own individual, creative, and resourceful vision. This invaluable gift led to his children learning hands on skills for problem solving and showing their inner Macgyver.

Connie enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting, motorcycling, snowmobiling, camping at Clear Lake and wintering in Sarasota, Fla.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Joan; children: Randy (Barbara) Kurilla, Jody (Kerri Lynch) Kurilla and Kevin (Michelle) Kurilla; five grandchildren: Erin (Casey) Gustafson, Katy (Jon) Ghinazzi, Anna (Kevin) Jensen, Matthew Kurilla, Mikayla Kurilla and two great-grandchildren; Morgan and Maxwell Gustafson. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Clara Kurilla, and by one brother, Gerald Kurilla.

The Memorial Mass for Connie will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street. Fr. Mariadas Vallabhaneni will officiate. At the conclusion of the Memorial Mass there will be a procession to Northland Memorial Park for the Committal Service.

Memorial contributions in honor of Connie may be given to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, 627 Coon Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501 or to the Oneida County Humane Society, 1852 N. Stevens Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, 715-365-4343. You are invited to sign the guestbook, or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com
