Roy, son of Henry Wubker and Marguerite Zoschenko, was born in Rhinelander on July 2, 1930. He was also very close to his stepmother, Josephine Wiswald. Roy was a 1948 graduate of Rhinelander High School.
As a young man, Roy joined the United States Air Force and served our country for 10 years, including during the Korean War. His service brought him to New Orleans, La., where he met his wife Ana. They married 66 years ago, on May 14, 1954. The couple eventually settled in Glen Ellyn and then Aurora, Ill.
Roy trained in the service as an air traffic controller and worked at the Chicago Regional Air Traffic Control Center, from which he retired at the age of 50. After retiring, he was called back to serve as an instructor of air traffic controllers through the University of Oklahoma for several years. During this time, Roy and Ana also established a real estate company in 1977, Royana Realty, which they operated for 40 years.
Roy was an avid musky fisherman but also thoroughly enjoyed fishing for panfish or anything with his extended family. In his earlier years he loved hunting for bear, deer, caribou, partridge and pheasants. Roy spent most summers at his lake house in Three Lakes and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and traveling with his family to the likes of Spain, Panama, Alaska, Canada, and the Caribbean.
Winters were enjoyed in their home in North Palm Beach, Fla.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Ana Wubker and his sister Nancy Ferra (husband, Jack Ferra). Also surviving are his three children, Wanda Graham (husband, William Graham), Kathleen Mahoney (husband, Robert Mahoney), and Roy Wubker Jr.; eight grandchildren, Nina Minnear (husband, Erich Minnear), Allison Mahoney, Rebecca Graham (husband, Ruben Mendoza Vazquez), Doug Mahoney (wife, Kalyn Mahoney), Valerie Mahoney, Madeline Wubker, Laura Wubker and Trina Balza (husband, Glen Balza); and five great-grandchildren, Brody Minnear, Cole Minnear, Reid Mahoney, Maren Mahoney, and Ferran Mendoza Graham. The sixth, a Balza baby, is on the way.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; brother, Robert Wubker; grandson, Andrew Graham; and son, Johnny Wubker.
The visitation for Roy will take place today, Friday, June 5, 2020 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, from 11 a.m. until the noon Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Mariadas Vallabhaneni will officiate. Immediately following the mass, there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery for the Committal Service.
