Larry was born on March 8, 1937, in Milwaukee, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Potter) Wagner. He attended school in the Milwaukee area and graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1955. After high school and some college, Larry joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. When he finished with the Navy he worked as a police officer for the Town of Summit in Oconomowoc for 10 years and a custodian for Northland Pines School District in Eagle River until his retirement at age 58.
Larry enjoyed fishing, and watching his favorite sports teams play. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Gemma Wagner and son, Joshua Wagner of Rhinelander, twin daughters, Sheri (Ken) Smith and Terri (Joseph) Placek , both of Eagle River, son, Robert Wagner of Oconomowoc, and daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Friedrich of Oconomowoc; grandchildren Amy Witkowski, Kenneth Welzien, Joseph Placek Jr., Rene Placek, Ashley Friedrich and Ryan Friedrich; six great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jacqueline Wagner.
A graveside service will take place at the Northwoods National cemetery in Harshaw at a later date. You may leave your private condolences for the Wagner family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the Wagner family.
