Hodag Farmers' Market returns to Pioneer Park for 2020 season
By Cassie Shefchik-
It was interesting getting everything coordinated for this event since the Safer at Home order went into effect before we could have a board meeting or market member meeting. Not everyone in our group has access to a computer or smartphone, making Zoom meetings pretty much impossible. Many phone calls were made, along with emails and Facebook messages, to connect with everyone. In the end everything came together and worked out well.
A dozen vendor stalls were set up for the first market. This might not sound like much but for the first market of the season, it's actually a very good number. There have been many years where a first market of the season had considerably fewer vendors.
The market had lots of fresh radishes, lettuce, microgreens, rhubarb, mushrooms, and kohlrabi (I saw some that were bigger than a softball and they were tender, not woody). There was also maple syrup, herbs, home-canned goodies, and bedding plants.
If you are still looking for tomato and pepper plants you might find them at this Saturday's market.
A lot of things have been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 but the farmers' market is up and running, albeit with some changes as to what we can have at our market due to new state mandates.
If you've never really ventured down to the Hodag Farmers' Market this might be the year to check us out. Our humble market might not have all the glitz and glamour of a big craft show but we do have some very unique crafts.
The Hodag Farmers' Market will be set up at beautiful Pioneer Park this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.. We hope to see you there.
