The son of the late Arthur and Jenny (Christensen) Hansen and the youngest of seven siblings who all preceded him in death, he is survived by his wife of 73 years, Peggy (Dusing) Hansen, and daughters Sharon (Allen, deceased) Crouch of Medinah, Ill., Donna (George "Jocko") Edlund of McNaughton, Cary (Brian) Stelzel of Rhinelander, and Louise (Jim) Borchers of Palatine, Ill., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Janet Hansen, and grandsons Jason Sweo and Bill Crouch.
A native of Chicago, Bill was raised on the northwest side of the city where he met his future wife, Peggy, and where their five daughters were born. They became active in their church, The Northside Gospel Center, the Awana youth ministry, and Christian camping.
In 1964, they moved to Rhinelander to work full-time in Christian camping with Fort Wilderness.
After retirement, Bill and Peg became active members of Lake Tomahawk Bible Church and continued to work with youth in Awana. Bill also taught a men's Bible Class and often spoke at senior retirement homes.
A disabled veteran, who served in the U.S. Army toward the end of World War II, Bill was a voracious reader and enjoyed sports, swimming, and spending time with people. The Hansen farm was host to many cookouts, hayrides, and campfires.
A visitation for Bill will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Attendance will be restricted to social distancing guidelines and all in attendance will be required to wear masks. Graveside services for Bill will then be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020 at the Newbold Memorial Cemetery.
Attendance at the graveside is not restricted, however social distancing will be observed and masks required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago.
