A fire in an apartment building at 4197 County Highway W Monday morning closed that stretch of highway for about 3 hours. Firefighters from Pine Lake, Rhinelander and Pelican responded to the scene at approximately 10 a.m. The fire was contained primarily to the apartment of origin, according to Pine Lake Fire Department assistant chief Mike Braun. Braun said he was part of the first PLFD first team to enter the apartment, followed shortly by a Rhinelander Fire Department team. They extinguished the blaze. Braun said the fire appeared to have started in a bedroom, which sustained heavy damage. The apartment below where the fire broke out suffered water and smoke damage while the adjacent apartments sustained minor smoke damage. In addition to the PLFD and RFD, Pelican Fire provided equipment and manpower. An Oneida County ambulance and the Oneida County Sheriff's Department also assisted. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the sheriff's department. Photo by Jamie Taylor/River News.
