Group spokesperson Maureen O'Melia said 75 percent of the funds for the construction of the courts came from donations from individual pickleball players in the greater Rhinelander area and no taxpayer funds were used.
The project came together quickly, as the City Council gave its approval for the new courts in June 2019. The courts were built specifically for pickleball, as opposed adapting tennis courts for pickleball.
