A member of the Wisconsin National Guard looks at the vehicles lined up for a COVID-19 testing event Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander. The testing was scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. but the site ran out of test kits at approximately 5 p.m., according to Linda Conlon, director of the Oneida County Health Department. Conlon said she thinks a number of factors led to an increased demand for the free tests including an increase in local cases, a state and national spike in cases, an increase in the number of people with symptoms, and increased movement of persons in the community. She said the department is trying to coordinate with the National Guard to schedule another round of testing, and will announce the date(s) on its Facebook page when details are finalized. Conlon said 300 people were tested Tuesday. For more information on local COVID-19 cases, see Page 3. Photo by Jamie Taylor/River News.
